PAR-Q

Regular physical exercise is one of the most effective ways to improve health and wellbeing. Exercise supports the heart, lungs, muscles, joints, and many other systems in the body, and can reduce the risk of a range of long-term health conditions. However, for a small number of people, physical activity may carry additional risk.

This Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q) is designed to help identify whether it is safe for you to begin a structured exercise programme, or whether you should seek medical advice before doing so.

On your marks, get set…

If you are aged 15–69 years and have no known medical conditions, this questionnaire will highlight whether further medical clearance is recommended prior to participation.

You should consult your GP or relevant healthcare professional before starting regular exercise if any of the following apply to you:

  • You are under the age of 15 with little or no previous exercise experience

  • You are currently taking prescribed medication

  • You are pregnant or have recently given birth

  • You are over the age of 69

  • You have a history of high or low blood pressure
